It's #moonlanding week! We know it was an extraordinary feat of science & engineering, but how did it contribute to pop culture? @JHUEPS has a #moon expert who can discuss moon art, books, music and more! #Apollo50th
This week is the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, arguably one of humankind's greatest accomplishments. The feat has embedded itself into our pop culture and the common vernacular by inspiring movies, sci-fi novels, art, music and even lunar jokes. How did the moon become such a big part of our lives?
Viranga Perera, a postdoctoral researcher who studies the thermal and chemical evolution of the moon at Johns Hopkins, not only has a hard science understanding of the moon, but examines how it has contributed to literature, mythology and religion, law, geopolitics and much more.
Perera, who will teach a course on the moon at Johns Hopkins this fall, is available for interviews about the moon and moon landing's contributions to our pop culture.
