A coalition of 29 states and cities are suing the Trump administration over their attempts to ease restrictions on coal burning power plants under the Clean Power Plan.

Janet McCabe, a professor of practice at the Indiana University McKinney School of Law andassistant director for policy and implementation at IU's Environmental Resilience Institute, is a former administrator at the EPA who led the office responsible for the Clean Power Plan during the Obama Administration.

"It is no surprise that states and others are bringing legal challenges against this Administration’s repeal and replacement of the Clean Power Plan," said McCabe, who served the acting assistant administrator for the Office of Air and Radiation at EPA from July 2013 to January 2017. "With every day bringing more scientific reports about the impacts the changing climate is having on our agriculture, public health, and economy, this is the time to move forward, not backward.

"The energy that will now go into legal challenges could be going into helping communities, businesses and farmers reduce and respond to climate change challenges," she added.

McCabe has also served as air director at the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, and held other environmental policy and management positions in that department, and in Massachusetts.
